NewspaperDirect announced today that it is distributing newspapers from around the world at the 2002 World Cup of Soccer in Korea and Japan. Through its License Partners in both countries, NewspaperDirect is printing more than 100 of the world's major newspaper titles and delivering them to a variety of locations
Held every four years, the competition for the World Cup gold trophy is the largest sporting event in the world. The 1998 World Cup in France attracted 2.7 million spectators to see the 32 teams play, with a global television audience of over 33 billion.
"NewspaperDirect's involvement in the World Cup of Soccer is unprecedented. Our distribution plan will put our publishing partners' newspapers into the hands of influential readers and soccer fans attending the World Cup" said Richard Miller, NewspaperDirect's VP of Sales and Marketing, "Our participation at the World Cup is a strong demonstration of the value of our service and technology."
NewspaperDirect will be providing the media working at the International Media Centers and International Broadcast Centers with their choice of more than 100 newspaper titles. Team members, officials and sponsors will be able to read their favorite newspapers, which can be ordered for delivery to major hotels and through various outlets in both Japan and Korea.
NewspaperDirect's recent distribution effort at the Winter Games in Salt Lake City was a tremendous success. More than 55,000 newspapers were delivered to team members, officials, spectators, and media representatives. Plans for the World Cup will leverage the experience at the Games to deliver a similar result.
