Vancouver, Canada, May 18, 2005—Canon U.S.A., Inc., the overall U.S. brand leader in the color and black-and-white copier markets¹, and NewspaperDirect, Inc., the world leader in digital newspaper distribution, today announced that the two companies have signed an agreement to co-market the NDPrintstation newspaper printing system through Canon U.S.A.'s Imaging Systems Group (ISG) Alliance and Industry Marketing (AIM) program.
The NDPrintstation enables companies to download and print same-day editions of internationally-recognized newspapers directly and efficiently from Canon digital imageRUNNER multifunction copier devices. NewspaperDirect will work closely with Canon's extensive network of dealers to present and deliver the NDPrintstation solution to the corporate market in the United States.
More than 270 newspaper titles from more than 50 countries in 35 different languages can be printed utilizing the NDPrintstation. Major foreign titles of interest to US corporate customers include The Times of London (UK), Daily Telegraph (UK), Le Monde (France), Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (Germany), Corriere Della Sera (Italy), Mainichi Shimbun (Japan), El Pais (Spain), Kommersant (Russia), Jerusalem Post (Israel), Sydney Morning Herald (Australia), The Globe and Mail (Canada) and The Times of India (India). There are more than 30 newspaper titles available from the U.S.A., including Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, New York Post, Houston Chronicle, Boston Globe, San Francisco Chronicle, The Philadelphia Inquirer, San Jose Mercury News, The Baltimore Sun and many others.
"By utilizing NewspaperDirect's ND PrintStation print-on-demand solution, Canon imageRUNNER MFP devices make possible convenient, ‘on-demand’ delivery of valuable news resources for corporations, as well as other environments with limited access to paper subscriptions," said Greg Ryan, Senior Manager, Industry and Alliance Marketing for Canon U.S.A., Inc. "This flexible and unique solution represents a powerful and efficient information management and distribution system for Canon imageRUNNER device customers."
"With this move, NewspaperDirect is bringing companies a new way to get their same-day newspaper from anywhere in the world—by printing them in their office. We also recognize that by partnering with Canon, we can add significant value to the sales efforts of the Canon dealer channel," said Richard K. Miller, NewspaperDirect's Vice President, Sales & Marketing.
The NDPrintstation solution has been successfully tested in conjunction with the Canon imageRUNNER C6800 MFP and the imagePASS D1 server by VeriTest, a leading provider of independent outsourced testing services. Accordingly, the solution has been designated by Canon U.S.A. as "Canon Compatible" under Canon U.S.A.'s Alliance Program. A report summarizing the test plan and results has been published online at www.veritest.com/canon as a public validation of third party solution compatibility with Canon imageRUNNER, imagePASS and related systems products.
Currently, NewspaperDirect has more than 400 global installations of the NDPrintstation system in hotels, newspaper distributors, retail outlets, cruise ships, airports, libraries, educational institutions, corporate offices and private yachts.
